Introduction
As a family run hotel, we endeavour to exceed guest’s expectations.
Please contact us to ascertain whether your specific requirements may be met. We
are situated in a well lit road and served by local "road train" and open top
deck bus. The stop is adjacent to the hotel.
You may telephone us to clarify something you wish to raise.

There is a bus stop adjacent to our hotel.
Shanklin railway station is four minutes by road.
Accessible taxis are available on the Island.
The Old Village and town is five minutes walk.
You may hire equipment from Island Mobility and P M Supplies.

Arrival and
Parking
On arrival, park in any marked bay. Reserved accessible parking is available
adjacent to the main entrance. Should you need valet parking, let us know. There
are no steps to the doorway. Reception will arrange assistance with luggage on
request.
Main Entrance
and Reception.
Entrance through the main door threshold is two inches, 50 mm and the door
opening fifty five inches, 1.4m.
The door to the hotel is always secure.
Check in between 3-30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m., except by prior arrangement.
Reception is immediately in front of the entrance. There is a bench seat on the
left of the doorway. Registration may be completed while sitting; clipboards are
available. A large print registration form is available on request. There is a
slight slope from reception to the garden door.
All internal areas are short pile carpeted. Except the W.C.’s..
On check in, evacuation procedure will be explained to you. The evacuation
signal is a continuous sounding of the fire bell.
The dining room is behind reception.
The lounge area overlooks the garden and sea.
Public Areas –
General Internal
The public telephone is on the right of the reception desk.
Wired unlimited complimentary Internet connection is available in the Bar area,
free use of a R45 lead is available on request.
There are thirteen steps to the first level, four to the next, thirteen to the
next and five to the top floor. The banister rail is on the left when ascending.
The stairs are 7 ½” high, 10 ½”deep, 38 ½” wide
Public Areas –
W.C.
Adjacent to the door to the garden are accessible toilets. Gentlemen on the
left: Ladies on the right. The light switch is on the external wall adjoining to
the door handle.
The internals are laid out as accessible.
Dining Room,
Bar and Lounge
Breakfast and Evening Meal are served in the dining room. It is level access to
the dining room. The room is open plan and the floor is carpeted. Furniture may
be moved on request.
Tables have under space height of 25”, by 23 ½” wide and 29 ½” height. There are
chairs without arms that may be moved to accommodate. Table service is offered.
Menus are provided in large type. Natural light from windows overlooking the sea
and evenly distributed wall lights are used. Dark blue underclothes and white
lace style table cloths with white crockery assist in colour contrasts.
We cater for special dietary needs, as notified to us when the reservation is
made.
The local BBC radio Solent 96.1 FM is played in the background during breakfast
and background music is played during evening meal. We hold the relevant P.R.S .
Licence and the certificate is displayed in reception.
There is an open plan bar with padded stools and chairs with arm rests and
occasional tables. Lighting is mainly lights over the pictures with some natural
light. Increased lighting from the central chandelier is available on request.
The bar may be used, on request, from 11-00 a.m. until 10-20 p.m..

Laundry, Shop, Leisure Facilities, Outdoor Facilities, Conference, Meeting Room,
Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment.
We can facilitate dry cleaning of personal items, dependant on local shop
availability.
Bedrooms
One is situated on the ground floor off the dining room, adjacent to reception.
There may be a double bed, or two single beds, dependant on request. A shower
stool is available. The slim line wheel chair fits through the door opening of
27 ¾”.
Every room is different: most may be twin, double or family, dependant on
request. There are three bedrooms on level one, five on level two, three on
level three and five on level four. Dimensions provided on request as furniture
is moveable.
Flooring in the bedrooms is short pile carpet with lino in the bathrooms.
Natural light, central lamp and bedside lamps provide illumination.
All areas of the hotel and grounds are no smoking.
Items in the room may be moved by request.
Room service is possible, ask when making reservation enquiries.
All bedding is non feather. Non feather pillows are available on request.
Television with remote control. Radio/alarm clock.
Grounds and
Gardens
There is a medium size enclosed garden at the front of the hotel with lawn and
flower borders for guests use. Bench, table and chairs with or without an
umbrella.
Registered assistance dogs catered for. There is an enclosed park fifty yards
away.
Mobile telephone reception outside the hotel is generally good.
In the event of the evacuation bell sounding, proceed in an orderly manner as
previously directed on arrival to the car park entrance assembly point. Should
you need assistance, notify us on arrival and use the sign provided on your
bedroom door handle. Fire Marshalls in high visibility vests will direct you at
all critical points.
Hired equipment may be delivered in advance of arrival.
Notify reception on arrival of any medication that may need refrigeration.

Future Plans
We have a program of refurbishment which progresses during the closed period.
We welcome your comments to assist us improve our service to you and your
holiday experience.
We extend a very warm welcome to you. Situated on the cliff top, near Shanklin
Chine, Clifton Hotel is ideally positioned and perfectly located as a base from
which to explore the Island.
During your stay, take time to relax and unwind. We really are friendly and
“laid back” as a community.
We are continually renovating and decorating our hotel that commenced life as a
“Gentlemans’ Residence” in 1929. All our rooms are different and may be a twin,
double bedded room. We also have family rooms.
May is the Walking Festival, but the footways are open all year round.
For those who wish to be more adventurous, we are able to arrange cycle hire.
Bicycles are delivered and collected from the hotel and there is secure storage
if you would like to bring your own.
Our dining experience, where fresh, Genetically Modified free locally sourced
produce is served is also able to cater for special diets. We are willing to
store medication that requires refrigeration during your stay.
An excellent selection of wines compliment evening meals and the well stocked
bar caters for all tastes.
